Minecraft

If you don't know about this game, you've been living in a cave (which, coincidentally, you can spend quite a bit of time in in Minecraft). It's an open world where pretty much everything is a block. You can craft multiple blocks (in recipies, of which there are hundreds) to form new items/blocks. The graphics are basic, with the focus on the gameplay. Your imagination is key here, as you can basically build whatever you want (within reason). The world is (horizontally) near-infinite, and randomly generated when you start/explore new areas. This means each time you start a new world, it's a new experience with a new layout; a new adventure. There's day/night periods, and when it's dark (either outside, or down in the mines you dig, or natural caverns you happen upon), bad guys spawn. This gives you the need to find shelter, and survive, each night. It may sound ridiculous and boring, but it is amazingly, amazingly fun. It's is hard to describe why it's so addictive, but it's the biggest timesink I've come across in a while. Once you try it, chances are you'll be hooked. The game is even bigger than you walking around in a world by yourself, though. There's also online multiplayer, with hundreds (thousands?) of servers/worlds out there. You can join public ones, or start a private one for you and some friends to get together and build/mine together. Youtube has plenty of videos of some of the amazing stuff people have made, either in single player or multiplayer.

An introduction video is below.

Some links:

Minecraft Main Site
- This is where you buy the game ;)

Tutorial 01: Surviving Your First Night
- Worth watching before playing!

Tutorial 02: Survive & Thrive (Food & Cooking)
- I also watched this one, probably good to know..

Tutorial 03: Survive & Thrive (Armor Crafting)
- This is where I stopped watching and started playing, but he made a LOT more that are apparently quite good.

Minecraft Wiki
- Probably the most important site in this list. It gives you all the recipes and different things you can make, as well as information on how to do some of the more advanced things, like circuits. Basically any in-game info you need is on this site.

Buy. Play. Enjoy. Get addicted.

O Brother, Where Art Thou?

The Coen brothers do some great work. I haven't seen all their films (yet), but I have seen quite a few. This one is in my top two (shared by The Big Lebowski) of their work. The 1930s world, the trials they go through, and the way the speak.... all great. There are about 20 billion references to Homer's Odyssey, so plenty to look out for :). This movie is great all the way through, including the music (which became more popular than the movie itself).

Enough reading me talk about it. Go watch it. Go watch it again if you've already seen it.
Arby 'n' the Chief: Episode 6 - "Brawl"

Arby 'n' the Chief is machinima, which is a video made from in-game footage of... a game. In this case, it's Halo 3. I've watched other episodes of this, but this is definitely the best one. There are quite a few great lines (roflcopter sound, for example), and Chief is in his finest form.

Video: Lissie Covering Kid Cudi's "Pursuit of Happiness"

I randomly came across Lissie. I heard a couple of her songs on YouTube and liked them so I wikipedia'd her. They mentioned she did a popular Lady Gaga cover. I went to find that, and ended up on this video. It's awesome. Her full album (of original music) is quite good. It's good clean folk rock.

This cover is what sold me, though. She definitely puts her own slant on it.

Found path:
Deadmau5 [Wikipedia]->Morgan Page (ft. Lissie) - The Longest Road (Deadmau5 Remix) [YouTube]->Lissie - When I'm Alone (Live) [YouTube]->Lissie [Wikipedia]->Lady Gaga - Bad Romance - live cover - Lissie->Lissie - Kid Cudi live cover - Pursuit of Happiness (wow..)

This is the first post of another blog I probably won't keep updated. If I see something I really like on the Internets, I'll post it here. I may also try to post where I saw it. Not sure that'll work.. we'll see.

Your mom may or may not love it. I just used this domain because I had it and wasn't using it for anything.
